We support the team and an organization's awareness, leading to greater communication and alignment. Our consultants are trained and certified in a unique range of proven shared experience methods to specifically address teams and organizations:
► Critical Incidents
Critical Incidents is a flexible, interactive method to collect direct observations of behavior (incidents) that are used to solve organizational and practical problems. It is used in a variety of areas and is very effective in teams.
The process includes three phases (1) identifying the assumptions that underlie our thoughts and actions; (2) scrutinizing the accuracy and validity of these in terms of how they connect to, or are discrepant with, our experience of reality; and (3) reconstructing these assumptions to make them more inclusive and integrative.

► Focused Conversation
Focused Conversation is about regarding conversation as a critical force and invaluable resource to improve communications in organizations and teams. It values the wisdom gained from ordinary conversations and endeavors to develop strong conversational skills at multiple levels of the organization. Our consultants guide discussions through four natural levels of thinking about a topic:
- Descriptive/objective (understanding the facts, use of observable data)
- Reflective (impact of the facts, internal and emotional)
- Interpretive ("why", meaning and purpose)
- Decisional (implications, choices and action)
Focused Conversation assumes that we find the reality of life in the palpable, observable, sensory world (descriptive). It assumes that authentic feelings and emotions derive from the direct experiences we encounter. This internal data from feelings, emotions, and associations is just as real as the externally observable data, and must be seriously considered in our decision making (reflective).

► Theories in Action
Theories in Action is about a powerful aligning of a companie's purported culture, mission, etc. and their in-fact actions. Many companies unknowingly operate and support this duality. Our goal is to examine a company’s espoused theory of action vs. their theory-in-use and change the governing values to produce new action strategies with expoused and in-use theories in alignment.
Our work is based on a concept developed by Argyris and Schon (1974) which suggests that individuals and organizations maintain theories of action that they have developed about and for themselves. Theories of action typically include an espoused theory of action and a theory-in-use.
The "espoused theory of action...is the theory of action to which is given allegiance, and which upon request, is communicated to others. However, the theory that actually governs action is the theory-in-use, which may or may not be compatible with the espoused [publicly stated] theory; furthermore, the individual may or may not be aware of the incompatibility of the two theories." (p.7).

About Team & Organizational Consulting
The executives we work with are extremely competent. With some, our focus is accelerating their development by rounding out some unforeseen flat sides. With others, it is changing conscious and unconscious behaviors that have limited their effectiveness by creating walls where roads should have been built.
